Santorini - Naxos

1st Day: Arrival to Santorini
Breakfast. Departure for Pireas port of Athens airport depending on your choice for Santorini, one of the most famous islands in the world. Arrival and transfer to the hotel. Free day at your disposal. Overnight.


2nd Day: Optional Tour: Caldera Cruise & Oia Sunset Tour
You will go by bus to Athinios port where we board the boat King Thiras, which will sail to the lava islet Nea Kameni. You will walk an ascending soil path to approach the crater of the still active Volcano. Then back to the boat and you sail to the second lava islet called Palea Kameni, where you find Hot Springs. Here, you will have an opportunity to swim in the green sulphur waters. Then set sail for the island of Thirassia. There you can explore the island or swim at the beach next to the port. We stay for about one hour and then the boat will sail close to the caldera cliffs, so you will have the chance to take excellent photographs. After Thirassia, the boat sails on to Oia, where you stay to admire the spectacular sunset. Then you will return to their hotels by bus from Oia after the sun has set.

3rd Day: Optional Full day: Santorini History & Wine Tour
Visit the Akrotiri Excavations, a prehistoric city from the Bronze Age, frozen in time by ash during the minoan volcanic eruption 3,600 years ago. Some speculate that this is the origin of Atlantis – a mythical city, lost in time. The large extent of the settlement, the elaborate drainage system, the sophisticated multi-storeyed buildings with the magnificent wall-paintings, furniture and vessels, show its great development and prosperity. In Akrotiri, the excavations revealed evidence of winemaking, estimated from the 3rd Millenium BC., placing Santorini as one of the oldest winemaking regions in the planet. Continue the discovery at the vineyards of Santorini, visit the low vines and learn about the unique viticulture. Enter 3 traditional wineries and taste a selection of 12 different wine styles from Santorini & Greece such as Assyrtiko, Nykteri and the legendary sweet delight, Vinsanto.

4th Day: Santorini - Naxos
Breakfast & Transfer to the port for departure to the largest island of Cyclades, Naxos. Arrival and transfer to the hotel. Rest of the day free at your disposal. Overnight.


5th Day: Naxos - City Walking Tour
Departure from Naxos Tours heading  towards the Castle. We pass by a grocery store, stop for a while and continue to the southern Paraporti (castle entrance. We arrive to the archaeological museum. After finishing the visit, we go to the small church of Panagia Theoskepasti and then in the Catholic Church We continue with a visit to Capella Casatza and the Church of St. Anthony of Padua. We also visit the kitchen facilities of the old Ursulines school. We head to the Tower Glezos, and the Tower De La Rocca Barozzi which we visit and we go out of the castle through the North Gate. We enter the ” maze ” of the Old Market  narrow streets and we arrive at the Epitopio museum. at the Cathedral church’s square. The museum is an innovative idea of highlighting on the spot the excavation which revealed part of the ancient city of Naxos (of Mycenaean and Geometric period) , showing the continuous inhabitation of the area. The walk ends beneath the Naxos trademark, the so-called “Portara.

6th Day: Naxos - Optional Tour of the Island
Leaving Naxos town, the tour visits the mainland.Galanado is the first village we come across, which offers view to the fertile fields which produce the famous naxian potato. Outside the village rises theBellonias tower. First stop is the small village Damalas, where we visit a traditional ceramics workshop. In the same village, there is also the possibility to visit a restored traditional olive press. We continue through the fertile valley of Tragaia and passing through age-old olive, plane and oak trees, vines and fruit groves surrounded by towering summits  we stop at the village Halki with its mansions and the interesting Byzantine church of Panagia Protothroni. There we visit the citrus distillery which produces the homonymous local liqueur. Then we visit the Byzantine church ofPanagia Drosiani, near the village of Moni, a monument of the early Christian period with interesting frescoes, which is considered to be one of the oldest in the Balkans. The church, part of an old monastery, has a unique architectural style, with bare stone-walls, a three-part attic with dome and three adjoining chapels on the northern side with square dome bases on their roofs. Some of the frescoes that have been saved date to the 6th century, while the rest belong to the period between the 11th and 14th centuries. Next stop is Apiranthos or t’Aperathou in local dialect, is built at the foot of Mt. FanariVenetian towers, pretty, old two-storey houses, marble paved alleys with arches above them, picturesque squares combine to create a rare atmosphere. Apiranthos has 3 interesting  museums.  The Archaeological Museum mainly hosts finds of the Proto-Cycladic period, the Geological Museum features some rare and unique items among its approximately 2,000 exhibits, the Natural History Museum includes a collection of the area’s fauna, flora and a small aquarium, while the Folklore Museum displays traditional fabrics, embroidery and tools. Time for lunch at  the local tavernas. One the way back, we visit the lush settings of Flerio, Melanes. The area was very important during antiquity. An aqueduct 11 kilometers long was recently discovered, a major engineering project in several historical phases, carrying water to Naxos town ensuring water supply. The ancient archaic marble quarry is also to be visited. There lies the imressive statue of Kouros, so called the “Greek”, 6,4 meters long, dated from the 7th century BC.

7th Day: Naxos - Optional Cruise to Koufinisia & South of Naxos
A leisure cruise to some of the virgin and not easily accessible beaches on the southeastern coast of Naxos. Departing from the port of Agia Anna, one can enjoy a full day of sailing on board, swim in clear waters and discover unique beaches as Rina bay and get to know Pano and Kato Koufonisi. Enjoy a barbecue lunch served on board.

8th Day: Departure from Naxos
Breakfast & Transfer to airport or port for departure back to your home country.
